But the degree to which he is successful is largely due to the number of people believing the hype of critics saying he's some must read literary genius, and parroting the same to join the cool intellectual club. Not just recognizing a good-ish author, with thousands of equivalent peers.

And King's books are built on a bedrock of middle aged midwits who believe parroting what the elites say publicly makes them superior.
So he's being true to his own fanbase at least, I guess.
