Similarly the stats about women attempting suicide are conflated in several ways.
First, non suicidal self harming is counted, so that's irrelevant actions being included in the numbers.
Second, because of the methods employed when comparing male suicide and female suicide, male suicide attempt numbers end up being lower because the success rate per attempt/individual is significantly higher.
Anyone attempting suicide will fall into roughly 3 vague categories of outcome.
a) managing to succeed
b) changing their mind and getting medical aid
c) failing and surviving long enough to receive medical aid.
The methods involved though mean that when a man tries to kill himself he more often than naught gets it right first time, so there are obviously never going to be any subsequent attempts by those men, therefore men will be a far greater proportion of section a).
Women however in addition to the above point about non suicidal self harming will have far greater numbers in sections b) and c) because their methods are significantly less effective, either because the attempt isn't sincere or due to things like vanity when considering funeral appearances therefore favouring methods which are far less wholly destructive. As such those in sections b) and c) will still be around after to try again, whether fully committed or not to actually succeeding, causing both the increased number of "attempts" by women, and also the significantly lower success rates per attempt/individual.
Let's get those numbers up across the board. Download/build your very own Sarcopod today! https://www.exitinternational.net/sarco/
Nevermind their dumb advertising gimmick--it's not "assisted" suicide if you can climb in a Sarcopod, close the lid, push a button, and voila! Have lunch with Jesus and St. Peter! (Or barbecue with Satan, if that's your destination.)
