Very early, around 2014. I believe the word faggot was mostly pulled out for mod wars. It would NEVER have been sanctioned to refer to actual gay people. We had a "celebration" thread for the "victory" of Obergefell in 2015.
Yes, I don't think it would have been used to refer to homosexuals. But use of the word itself and calling other users that was legal.
