In the Harry Potter universe, the gold that all the Wizards use is created by the Goblins. HP Goblins believe that there is no such thing as buying forever, only renting until you die, at which point it's supposed to return to the original craftsman. All the gold comes with a serial number on it identifying which Goblin created that particular coin so their proper owner can be found.
Maybe JKR really was trying to suggest something about someone.
Why don't wizards just turn lead into gold? Maybe that's why they need serial numbers. To keep their currency scarce.
She may be "baste" about trannies but she's still a hack lefty feminist YA hag.
Because the world building was shit, and never made sense.
In universe, it's implied (by the existence of the philosophers stone) that you can't turn things to gold without that or other similar rare/lost magic though.
Yep. In the indeterminate amount of time after his parents left school, they amassed a fortune large enough that Harry never had to worry about money. He has enough that he never really thinks about it running out, and it certainly never comes up in the story.
Isn't that mostly from gifts, donations and from the bounty paid to the Potter estate for the death of Voldemort, paid largely from the coffers of the former noble families whose last remaining heirs were killed by him, like the Monroes? (Although I forget if that family name is canon, or unique to HPMoR.)
I don't recall any of that from the main 7 books, which is the majority of my knowledge on the series. If JKR mentioned any of that in interviews or elsewhere, I never read it or heard of it before now.
I don't want to give her too much credit. Gobbos are definitely jews. If you make em bankers people are going to draw the parallels more readily. But they always were that.
