Her constituency was a 'conservative' safe seat and she was their representative after the previous guy, a former RAF airman, retired in 2010 (in an expenses scandal). She was the slop (or as the French say, salope?) that the Tory party served up for their voters there, if they wanted to avoid the seat turning red.
Also she's now a Lord, so there's no question of electing her or unelecting her any more.
