It was Disney's (really, Kathleen Kennedy's) version of "The Future is Female" (the Feminine Supremacy slogan during the Rise of the SJWs) after appropriating a franchise that mostly appealed to men, young and middle-aged, when going beyond the films and Clone Wars media. The point of this phrase was "we're not making new content for the core fanbase anymore, we're making it for the normies, which means more wymynz". Those two versions of the slogan quite literally appeared around the same time.
If they're still going with this phrasing after mostly torching the franchise by trying to make the force female, it's kind of hilarious.
(Personal note: the franchise was dead to me the moment Disney retconned the EU into muh legends not too long after purchasing it. Yeah, the EU has weird plots and had bad writing in a number of places, but it's highly disrespectful to just throw out 30 years of literature just so one could make whatever bullshit Social Justice Wars to piss off hardcore fans and wear it like a skinsuit. Even more disrespectful to then steal concepts from that EU which was retconned)
They could’ve easily said you know there are a lot of loyal EU fans, lets continue that universe in a separate continuity. Also they could’ve taken a page out of the DC playbook and done some animated adaptations of EU stories. If you haven’t already check out Darth Angelus on YouTube who is doing an animated Heir to the Empire adaptation
That sounds cool, I'll go check it out. Thank you!
