I'd argue that it's more young men are so fucking desperate for any type of father/patriarchal figure that they'll go with anyone whom so much as breaths in the right manner and ignore all the warning signs.
Jordan Peterson didn't really say anything revolutionary, but he was a male figure that came across as one of authority, and a lot of people want that kind of reassurance.
I'm not sure if he is an asset, but I can tell that the system prefers for radicalizing young white dudes to politically cleave along sex lines rather than racial ones. They probably let him go for a while because of that.
