In fairness, the Germans have been screwing over the French for a lot longer than that. And, technically, the English while not being your enemy (right now) have been your rivals ... forever.

Even then, it seems to be that everyone's ruling class is both entirely devoted to Neo-Liberal Fabian Socialism, while also trying to play Realpolitik. The UK and French governments have no actual objections to Globalism, but the UK is being flooded with migrants that France is refusing to stop, and I'm sure the UK probably fucked France over regarding Lybia or something.

The people of these countries are all getting fucked by governments who are playing HOI4 with each other, while still managing to be on the same side.
