That's the post, really. Basically everyone is saying it's really good and has no microtransactions, etc. Is it worth a buy, or would I be supporting a woke project?

Bad part is the game is fun. That is the worst part of the game, I prefer woke stuff to be Rings of Power level of woke, to the point it is complete shit.
A game that is both woke and fun is how the industry moves further left. First we had romances in BG2, then we had bisexuals in DA:O, then we moves to gay characters hitting on you, now we have gender fluid and probably trans characters that are suppose to be normal in a medieval fantasy world. Medieval worlds now are more diverse and gayer then modern day LA.
The worst part about it is that that's all I hear about this game... all about the gay stuff.
I haven't been following Baldur's Gate in ages, yet whenever it comes across my radar or in feeds, it's always about gay stuff. It's quite telling that the most marketable feature is how gay the game is.
I had to actually go search out livestreams to find out what the actual combat looked like, because not one person promoting the game has said one thing about the actual gameplay.
My guess, the jornos realized this is going to be a huge success so they hype the gay stuff so that once it becomes a success they can then claim that gay content sells and attack the right as impotent pearl clutchers. It would have been a bigger success without the gay stuff but you can't prove it.
I still don't know what type of game Mass Effect is. All I know is that the series has romance options.
You never go full Rings of Power.
Is it still 100% woke if the most of the woke content is still optional?
I thought the main issue with woke shit was when it's shoved down your throat and forced on you. Or when the woke message is so blatant that it permeates the entire experience, making it plain as day how rotten the product is.
Yes, because significant development time went into making that content, rather than making better gameplay, better story, etc.
Have you ever heard of Iceberg Theory? That shit infests the game world even when it's not actively being shoved in your face. It will always float to the surface.
Can you take it seriously, as a setting created with integrity, and feel like you're not being insulted? I can't.
I have played a bit of it. On the high seas of course, yarr harr fiddle dee dee and all of that.
The character customization part certainly annoyed me, and it is a bit obvious that there's not many highly feminine party members. The vampire character was blatantly annoying from the start, there's always at least one in RPG's. The cleric is a bit of a hag, but she mellows out pretty fast. Same with the Geth chick. Didn't spend enough time with other party members to assess.
But it is definitely not of the same style as former Baldur's Gate games, same with previous D&D related titles. And it's not toned down by any means. And it clearly has woke influence in it, I've never denied that. And I can understand why people wouldn't want to bother with it or risk funding WotC and whatever other interested parties were actively involved in incorporating token woke features. Same with anyone who just loathes 5e.
My only thing is that it's a weird case where, because of how much freedom of choice the game offers, not only can players avoid a fair bit of wokeness, but they can actively play it as anti-woke as they want. You hate that vampire guy? Consider getting rid of him. You want to screw over some druid leader who's acting like a total bitch? Go for it. Want to make some characters actually look appealing? Mod it. It actually becomes a fun and therapeutic anti-woke experience. And if you don't want to fund the game, then don't.
Just tired of seeing so many people choosing to be victims. You have a lot of options available. They may not always be the exact options you want right off the bat, but it's your call what ground you want to fight on and how you fight it.
I'd also add that there are far, far greater threats to worry about than just the entertainment-culture side of the war. Threats that barely anyone is doing fuck all to prevent.
Sorry but this is the worst form of concern trolling. It's the... "It's not that bad guys, really".
You're justifying having to make several steps into accepting wokeness to get to the parts that you claim are anti-woke.
By proxy, you're already accepting the woke standards.
Body Type 1 and 2 instead of Male/Female? Check.
Vitiligo slider? Check.
Trans options? Check.
You have to actively avoid certain character interactions if you don't want to end up having gay sex? Check.
Enabling and accepting all of those woke steps to get to the supposed non-woke stuff means they will push even further. You're essentially accepting further moving the Overton Window Left. The next game will take steps even further because you've enabled those previous steps.
Basically, it's like having to walk through a bad neighbourhood full of hoodlums and vandals to get to a semi-decent cul-de-sac, and saying, "Well, at least the cul-de-sac is nice", as opposed to saying, "Ignore the cul-de-sac because it's surrounded by hoodlums".
Being disgusted, voicing that disgust, and holding firmly to your standards is not being a victim.
Even though by deliberately subverting what we care about they seek to victimize us.
If you want to play the game, play it. You don't need to make excuses for setting your standards aside. You don't need to convince yourself that the game isn't so bad, really, because it deigns to let you avert your eyes.
Yeah, there are greater threats. Those threats came about because we let our culture get subverted, and entertainment was a big part of that. The overton window is a powerful thing.
