Okay, now I've seen it more than once, I can't be the only one that's noticed this. This has always been a thing to use subscribe/bell animations they've obviously bought or taken off some site somewhere that's done it for them.
Now though I've noticed this is spreading and it wouldn't be so bad if it was just 5 seconds and out of the way of the content but they've picked ones with obnoxious cursor animations and clicking noises and it's actually managing to piss me off. Is this some kind of desperate attempt to appease the youtube algorithm like with how now every retard has to put a soy wojack face in their thumbnail? Them looking at the stats most likely and seeing how many people aren't subscribed instead of just respecting their fucking viewership.
I've largely completely turned off most of the well known political commentators over crap like this and I hope it doesn't get worse. Who am I kidding? It's youtube, it will get fucking worse. I wonder if it's some kind of replacement for them saying like/subscribe in every damn video, they keep doing it to cross off a checklist in their content. Oh and don't forget to check out my sponsor! I have less of a problem with the sponsorship because I know that really helps them out but even then.
I doubt it'll stop since the creators know they need people to subscribe to maintain algorithm relevancy as there's a lot of channels that get people that will watch videos here and there but not subscribe. That and maybe having more subscribers might provide another benefit like less likely to get yeeted.
The sponsor thing was funny as I remember years ago when it was like 'they're a massive sellout!' for doing sponsorship and now it's so common we joke about how you're first sign of making money is you're offered a RAID sponsorship.
Then there's the Chucke2009 (former welding youtuber) method, which was to have a bunch of top-tier sponsorships and have a million subscriber channel, then make your next to last video a reading of and commentary on the Brenton Tarrant manifesto and your last video about how you're a white nationalist and end your last video before you nuke your channel with "we must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."
Been about 4 years, and I still can't believe it happened. And I don't think he was a glowie op either: I think he was completely serious.
WTF? That’s wild.
Yeah I don't remember the exact timeline, but a few days before it all went down he posted a pic of his million sub youtube plaque with his channel name on it along with a a copy of Mein Kampf (and maybe a pistol but I'm not 100% sure) to a /pol/ thread.
Looking through the /pol/ archives, he posted about 9 months later that he got a visit from the FBI for his trouble (though they didn't have anything on him).
SponsorBlock is a great extension for filtering out that stuff. Overlays are difficult if there's real content in the background though.
I think this is why they do this, sponsors bother me less because you can skip over it but the animation flies across the screen etc. and I just found it pretty annoying. I wouldn't be shocked if they resorted to blatant pop ups or some other bollocks TO GET YOU TO SUBSCRIBE HURRRR DID YOU KNOW 70% OF USERS WHO WATCH THIS VIDEO AREN'T SUBSCRIBED? HURRRR.
You get the picture :P
I have never seen this.
I first encountered them on a channel called Disparu (reviews of modern TV shows). In his case, I don't mind the overlay, but it's the obnoxious clicking sound that drives me crazy, especially if I'm just listening and it's in the middle of the video.
I don't know. The animations seem less intrusive than stopping the flow of the discussion with "hey, please remember to hit like and subscribe because it really helps me get noticed by the algorithm blah blah blah."
Either one is kind of annoying to me because they're clearly targeting unsubscribed users ( obviously but you my point ) and making the experience more unpleasant for people trying to properly watch their content as a result. It's not at the point of being completely unwatchable yet, but it's getting frustrating.
It's just the usual bandwagon shit. Someone does something different, eventually one of the typewriter monkeys write Shakespeare, everyone starts copying what they did, none of them realize that the reason the got popular was because they did something to make them stand out, now everyone does the same thing and everybody becomes completely numb.
Rinse. Repeat.
