I doubt it'll stop since the creators know they need people to subscribe to maintain algorithm relevancy as there's a lot of channels that get people that will watch videos here and there but not subscribe. That and maybe having more subscribers might provide another benefit like less likely to get yeeted.
The sponsor thing was funny as I remember years ago when it was like 'they're a massive sellout!' for doing sponsorship and now it's so common we joke about how you're first sign of making money is you're offered a RAID sponsorship.
Then there's the Chucke2009 (former welding youtuber) method, which was to have a bunch of top-tier sponsorships and have a million subscriber channel, then make your next to last video a reading of and commentary on the Brenton Tarrant manifesto and your last video about how you're a white nationalist and end your last video before you nuke your channel with "we must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."
Been about 4 years, and I still can't believe it happened. And I don't think he was a glowie op either: I think he was completely serious.
Yeah I don't remember the exact timeline, but a few days before it all went down he posted a pic of his million sub youtube plaque with his channel name on it along with a a copy of Mein Kampf (and maybe a pistol but I'm not 100% sure) to a /pol/ thread.
Looking through the /pol/ archives, he posted about 9 months later that he got a visit from the FBI for his trouble (though they didn't have anything on him).
