Is there a "test" to see if someone can "think outside the box"?

Basically, a test to see if someone only knows conformist ideas or if they're capable of seeing alternative perspectives?

It would be easier today with that stuff being mass market. I'm not sure how accessible wireless camera feeds were back then.
