Is there a "test" to see if someone can "think outside the box"?

Basically, a test to see if someone only knows conformist ideas or if they're capable of seeing alternative perspectives?

Ask if they can picture an apple in their mind’s eye. If they can’t, you’re dealing with an NPC.
