It's not even just books, if they hate somebody or something in general it's usually because they were told to through a media article. You can see this if you're patient enough when you look at comments pages or reddit when they're chatting amongst themselves about somebody like Trump.
Remember the nuclear documents and how much they were spamming about that claiming Trump was selling them to the Saudis/Russia? They just regurgitated that from an article or headline they read. They didn't come to that conclusion by themselves. The majority of the time they don't even know why they hate Trump they just know 'orange man bad, my friends all hate him, latest fake scandal from news source I trust implicitly'.
This goes for a lot of people when it comes to anything new and popular that suddenly starts trending and people are trying to hate on it. They're complete fucking tools that can't think. Not a lot of people even online unfortunately think to themselves "Why do these people want me to hate this particular thing?". It's no surprise given that marketing experts have even managed to scientifically identify a specific timeframe for videos where peoples' attention span dwindles to nothing so it's even less of a surprise that people can't be bothered reading something they find difficult to understand.
I haven't read Atlas Shrugged by the way or any of the alleged right wing type literature that leftists love to rave about. I have however looked at communist writings in the past and even modern day propaganda these weirdos push out so I can understand how the leftists in general think. This is why I know and I'll post to anyone who will read it it, leftists are never there to debate in good faith, it's all a power play to them.

That's a pretty good point. It's pretty interesting that right wingers aren't as bad as this, because a lot of them are headline-skimmers as well (like boomercons). Maybe that's because righties have pre-existing belief systems and aren't trained to follow the cult of Expert-Managed Everything like lefties.

The youtuber Decoy Voice put this pretty well. "[Libs] don't want you to solve anything, they just want you to be wrong."
We often say history goes to the victors, but that's not quite true. Victory goes to the PR team. Egypt was terrible as an army, but even a slight win was put onto walls as the greatest maneuver ever. It's been like that for a very long time.
I remember how Art of the Deal was treated during the election. It would have given a great idea about Trump's personality and how he made decisions. They wanted evil, so it became something akin to Mein Kampf. They even compared it to the book.
There are so many books like that.

24/7 New Cycles and its consequences have been a disaster for society.
