I commend you for trying to play devil's advocate. You are more merciful than most here, but it's not worth it. It's not a hill you should ever consider dying on. You really shouldn't allow yourself to use the definitions made by the delusional. 2 + 2 does not in fact equal 5 just because a specific collective insists otherwise. Allowing yourself to even humor such an idea is how people slide into the poisoned mental gymnastics.
it's not a hill I'm dying on and I'm not meaning to play devil's advocate. yes they are delusional, yes they are mentally unstable, but that doesn't mean we should eliminate a treatment for the very VERY few people who would actually benefit from it.
Also, "sex change" has been a term long before "transgender" was even a thing. it has been used to describe the procedure to cut a man's dick off and replace it with an open wound that somewhat resembles a womb. when used, most normies know what you're talking about, but no normies are under the illusion that it creates a functional woman.
Then what "treatment" are you suggesting? Sorry, not trying to kick a dead horse or attack you specifically, but I'm legitimately unsure what you are suggesting we do for the people that "absolutely need it." Something that is scientifically feasible that would alleviate someone that insists they are the wrong gender. Operations are out, because it accomplishes fuck all. Medications are theoretically possible, but to what end exactly? What is it you hope to accomplish? A psychiatric evaluation is all I can see being feasible, but that requires the patient to acknowledge they need help and come to terms there is no magic cure. That they need to learn to live their life with the hand they were dealt. Sure, it fucking sucks they feel that way, but it also fucking sucks to have cancer. Live's a bitch and we need to return to sanity if we want solutions that are within the realms of human capability. We aren't gods, no matter how much modern medicine would have you believe.
Help me understand what you think we could possibly do? Honestly. I won't judge you for your beliefs like most here would. I just want to see thing from your angle.
operations and medications can only ever be coping mechanisms. Believe it or not, there are people for whom these things do actually work but again they are rare. expectations need to be set with the patient and they need to have total informed consent, something that is severely lacking right now. these treatments should also not be the goal, but the last resort hence the extensive interviewing and therapy.
Most people in the west right now who believe they are the wrong """gender""" believe it because they are surrounded by an environment that normalizes gender dysphoria, and even celebrates it. these individuals can be brought out of their delusion through therapy, as well as being taken out of the negative reinforcement environment. Buy and large we aren't doing that, which is why we see so many people who don't need these treatments taking them and ruining their lives. that's what needs to be fixed.
