I had to go to the original website to see the whole thing.
I'm calling bullshit that the author just asked an AI "draw someone from State X the way Europeans imagine them"
For example, there's no fucking way most Europeans would know that Hershey is in PA, but the PA pic is some fat Willie Wonka reject eating a chocolate bar.

I speculate there may just be a disproportionate amount of internet searching for Hershey from Europe (if people wanted to know where the candy company was located) versus the things with a larger global interest specific to Pennsylvania.
Everybody in the south is white and Hawaiians are also white? Yeah, no.
The prompt was obviously something with state keywords like "Person from Montana, horses, rancher". Or "Person from Nebraska, farmer, corn". And the keywords came from some survey of Europeans.
Since it's Buzzfeed they probably also added "white person who looks retarded" so the only interesting thing here is try as they might they couldn't get AI to make white people from Montana or Wyoming not look like badasses.
That seems accurate, because as much as European soylords on the internet like to rag on Americans about not knowing the capital of Montenegro, just about zero of them could name more than 10 US states, much less their capitals. (Le fuck is a le Concord?! Wasn't that a le aéroplane?)

Checks out.

Online (and the IRL ones I've known) Euros seem extremely reluctant to open themselves up to criticism from Americans.
