So is it more NATO just giving Ukraine their surplus as it's cheaper than getting someone to dispose of it or are the logistics side of NATO lazy idiots that can't be bothered to check if the equipment they send works in a Ukrainian climate?
I have a better idea: The German arms industry has degraded to shit over the last decades, and they are desperate to make sure people dont know about it because it is one of their only industries that is still profitable. For instance, one of the reasons they were so against sending tanks earlier in the war was entire due to the fact that they were worried about other Eastern European nations getting rid of their Leopards and replacing them with Abrams (like the Polish did).
Of course, like is usual with these sort of articles though, I imagine there is some missing context or truth-twisting going on.
The European national military units in general have gone to shit. I have several friends/family members who are lifers, and the "joint NATO training" postings are universally the worst. Best story was a German unit showing up in their personal tennis shoes because the unit hadn't been issued boots and only a handful of the members of the unit had fired a rifle in the last year.

Porque no los dos?
Not just cheaper, certain people are getting compensated for every tank that goes over there. All those $40 billion injections are going somewhere.
