Its also a shitty question, because "unarmed" doesn't mean "not dangerous."
I'd wager a large amount of the people killed by police were both unarmed, and tweaking on something so hard they were a massive threat to literally everyone in the vicinity. That's not a person you can just "let go" and any real attempt to put them down non-lethally like a taser (theoretically, we know they can still kill) will just be shrugged off because of how tanked out they are. Which means any attempt to restrain them will likely be fatal, or they are likely to die just because of the drugs anyway and the cops happened to be there (Hi Floyd).
Also, I'm very interested in that statistical anomaly where going from regular to Very Conservative makes the "more than 10000" triple in answer in clear defiance of every other natural trend.

I’d venture a guess that those who identify as “Very Conservative” are more likely to see polling as bullshit and therefore more likely to give a troll answer.
You may be on to something there. I remember the midterm before Trump won a lot of us in my voter district were trolling a pollsters that we were voting for a Democrat who lost. Seemed like everyone she asked voted for the guy and he lost. This was in NC.
Who would we be, if we did not enforce a scientific constant like that one? ("When doing polling, if you were to ask 'who currently has the greatest power in the USA', about 5% of people will answer 'lizardmen from beneath the surface' just to fuck with your data.")
I'm probably in the 95th percentile for "right wing" beliefs. If a polling place asked me this question I'd identify as very liberal and give the wrongest answer possible. Why? Fuck polling places, that's why.

It is your solemn duty to make shit up on every poll you're asked to participate in. After all, you're not getting paid for honesty.

Serious answer. My guess is they believe the cops should be going into these slums and cracking more skulls, Dredd style, spreading law and order.
I don't personally believe the cops are responsible for murders caused by not doing their job, but I understand how somebody could.
