Why do you think the moon landing was a conspiracy theory? I mean right now in your pocket is probably a phone with gps that only works because we put satellites in orbit. It's not much harder to put up a rocket to something that orbits our planet already. Rocketry is not space magic, it's just physics.

That's even ignoring the incredible idea that somehow the greatest enemies in the cold war would somehow work together to embarrass one of them for reasons.
