I'm really glad people are bringing this point up with these endless shitty remakes no one asked for. If you completely ignore the story the production value is horrible and studios doing work for Disney and Hollywood used to be considered the pinnacle of CGI and general movie effects/prop creation even by me.
Now though? It's not just the fact it all looks shit, with a trained eye you can see some rather dramatic inconsistency in the quality of things like the models being used which leads me to believe the lazy fucks are lifting internal third party assets from multiple sources and just shamelessly mashing them together with zero changes to make them match the scenes they were putting this stuff in. There is a lot more wrong with these types of productions than just the horrible predictable SJW writing. Even CGI from earlier movies looks far better than a lot of these modern productions and it's because they have consistency.
People rag on Jar-Jar, but he actually looks like he's in the scenes with all the physical characters. CG can work really well, but it takes effort and talent to pull off. Things that are verboten in the current year.
Yeah, when they're actually interacting with the 3D to one degree or another it does work. However most of it is just actors cosplaying while pulling an appropriate face and everything being in the background, fucking anyone can do that. One of the reasons the older Michael Bay transformer movies looked so good was because the lunatic made the actors run through real explosions so they barely had to act lol. Even if you don't like the guy or what he does I do have to respect that adherence to proper stunts and effects.
The best example I can point to of a CGI character done right in movie history is Gollum, Weta Workshops really did some good work with that. The hobbits having to physically drag him around or getting into fights with him etc. really made it believable.
The Transformers in Transformers 2007 had actual CGI transformations. In the sequels all of that was replaces with smoke and pillars to hide the transformations and reduce cost.
We all saw the Twitter threads when the same activist types thought some of the live action Lilo actors were too light. So yes, this area is going to be absolutely rife with hypocrisy.

I would never dare rag on Darth Jar Jar
Mesa usa da force choke on yousa!
An excuse to hate on the movie without looking "racist".
These remakes need to be hated no matter what.
More like "The Latte Mermaid".
And yet they have every excuse when you point out their hypocrisy

They even black-washed the horse.
