It is big time getting in the way of him doing any kind of effective politicking or governing, he surrounds himself with sycophants and then gets surprised when they always stab him in the back. He could have brought in honest people from his own movement to keep him honest, but that would mean his ego would take a beating whenever he did something stupid.
This is why people should not be shocked if he loses legitimately. I hope I'm fucking badly wrong, but I feel like even if he does win it will be another pyrrhic victory because he realistically failed at everything he set out to do because he didn't truly understand the forces arrayed against him and he's making it out everything is about him.
Even if you voted for him in 2016 and/or 2020 because he was your best viable choice out of two, this should not surprise you at all. There were a lot of his supporters who claimed he was something other than an egotistical nitwit who would choose “avenge petty ego injury” over “be professional and act for the good of the people” every time those options were before him. This has been part of the bargain with him from day one, hoping to ride the storm of his bitch-fits so that in his calmer moments he would get positive things done. People smashing their fists into their keyboards over and over until the words “God-Emperor” were spelled correctly on their screen refused to believe that about him, but it’s been clear for a long time.
Like Bolsonaro he's proven as well when the shit hits the fan he'll abandon his followers to save himself and that was a big thing with me. You simply can't trust a leader like that because they'll gladly sell out given the opportunity. We don't have to accept this kind of bullshit and I'm pretty happy when Trump started drum beating for people to protest over his indictment the organisers told him to fuck off. Say what you will about Trump himself, people are getting smarter about not falling into these traps.
I would still like it if he ends up winning in 2024 because it would be hilarious seeing the absolute screeching and let them know they're not in charge. However at the same time, I wouldn't consider it a loss now. There are other ways to fight back aside from the utterly corrupt political system.
The reality is that Trump is an ego-driven retard.
That said, he was still better than Shillary and Biden.

DeSantis is doing more for election integrity as governor than he ever did as president.
Trump is very petty.
