They say most of the deaths were PLA soldiers, and that's probably true. They gloss over the foreign workers killed in the fighting, but that's still a lot closer to reality than the western narrative of thousands of students being slaughtered. Yeah, CCP's position is white washed, but the western position has nothing to do with reality at all.
