I watched Demolition Man for the first time
posted 2 years ago by Smith1980 2 years ago by Smith1980 +75 / -0

I watch Demolition Man for the first time the other night. I always heard people say it predicts our current time and I definitely see that. The fines for profanity were funny, but hate speech laws are worse than that. Also the banning of meat and and salt

Honestly. For dick what I really love is his exegesis. Its wild. For his novels. Probably the Penultimate truth or the novella the adjustment team. My wife prefers android I think.

My favorite heinlein is The moon is a harsh mistress followed by The man who sold the moon

In his exegesis he finally learns to flesh out characters. This was his only real flaw as a writer, 3D plots with 1D characters.

Interesting way of describing it. Reminds me of when someone told me Skyrim was as wide as an ocean but as deep as a puddle

I have Exegesis but need to read. It. I don’t think I have Penultimate Truth unless it’s in one of the collections of his short stories I have. What did you think of the end of A Scanner Darkly? I love how the movie included Dick’s tribute from the book and it was very interesting how the govt was producing the drug it was fighting. Endless cycle.

I’d love a proper film or TV adaptation of Moon is a Harsh Mistress but not with modern Hollywood. So many others as well. Orphans in the Sky or Farnham’s Freehold. I’ve always wanted a more book accurate Starship Troopers.

Farnham’s Freehold

Modern Hollywood would fucking love this.

True but I enjoyed it. I don’t see why it’s racist. It’s not racist to have black ppl be the villains. Wesley Snipes did a great job in Demolition Man and Denzel in training day. But I’m sure Hollywood would totally change up the book

But black/brown people wouldn't be the villains in a Hollywood version, Farnham would be. They'd simply be portrayed as getting revenge on their oppressors, whereas Farnham would be portrayed as an abusive rapist.

I enjoyed the book. It's one I recommend to people. I havent seen the movie though. It's crazy how so many of his stories have been turned into films

I know but I wish they went with the long book titles. I saw A Scanner Darkly before I got into his books. It made me like it more because the ending is very close to the books.

Philosophically, Ubik is his masterpiece.
