I have to do some cleaning due to friends coming over to watch Wrestlemania this weekend but I was curious if there were any wrestling fans here. I’ve been watching off and on since I was a little kid and my mom told me not to watch it. My first memory is my dad watching Hogan and Mr T doing a promo for the first wrestlemania. 80s wrestling was fun to watch as a kid and late 90s/early 00s were another boom period. Now they aren’t as edgy as they once were but can still be entertaining although some things have gotten woke. WWE network is worth the subscription just for its library of classic wrestling. Japan and Mexico have great wrestling as well.

Our tastes and timelines align pretty closely. I was a big fan of NWA/JCP, AWA, WCCW, and WWF as a kid in the 80s, then stopped entirely around 92. I picked it back up in college when I was introduced to Fire Pro and ECW in 96. Started getting AJPW tapes a year later. Dropped wrestling when WCW died, watched a little early TNA and jumped back in at the height of ROH.
These days, I watch AEW weekly and catch as many NOAH and NJPW shows as possible. WWE can have it’s moments but it’s just generally not to my tastes.
AEW hits that sweet spot Nitro did back in the day of having something for just about everyone, and it’s a treat to just get to see Omega, AmDrag, and the like just go out and create magic.
I can list all the things AEW gotten right, I won't, I'll just mention one:
Watching 62 years-old Sting diving off the balcony, I remember I had this smile on my face, I felt like a kid again watching my hero Sting do his business. It's silly and marky but I was lost in that moment, and I felt like that kid again. It's moments like that that made me love wrestling.
Well, that and Jon Moxley and Adam Page beating the ever-loving shit out of each other at Revolution.
I’m so impressed by Sting. Hogan is my all time favorite but Sting is definitely top 5
Yea I get the old school NWA feel with AEW. Outside of the dude pretending to be a woman it’s solid.
The best thing I can say about Nyla Rose is that at least it’s a fake sport and you aren’t beaten over the head with it
True. I guess since it’s constantly pushed in everything I have a lower tolerance. But you are right
I’m honestly not certain it’s ever even been mentioned on the air
