Disney then invoked a “Royal lives clause,” which tried to extend the length of the contract for as long as possible by tying it to the lineage of the Royal family.
The document signed by the old board and Disney said, “[T]his Declaration shall continue in effect until twenty one (21) years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, King of England living as of the date of this Declaration.”
Their real world actions are the most entertaining thing about them.
So since Disney was set to lose control of the board overseeing its lands, it had the board while it was still under Disney control, sign over all its powers to Disney forever.
As a lawyer, this was an idiotic move. It would only work if the Governor and Legislature had no political will to act further and would just lie down and do nothing. This would be a fair assumption if DeSantis & the Legislature only took action against Disney for symbolic show to peacock for voters, but that very clearly was not the case.
By continuing to escalate in a losing battle, all Disney did was create more bad press for themselves and give Republicans a good reason to revisit the issue again and punish Disney more.
DeSantis and the Legislature can easily pass a new bill that not only voids all Disney's bullshit, but heaps on extra punishments to retaliate for the games Disney tried to play.
In terms of escalation, FL Republicans can really put Disney through hell and there is absolutely nothing Disney can do about it except weather the storm and/or beg for mercy. Disney is far far far too heavily invested in Florida to threaten to leave the state.
The Florida courts aren't going to ride to Disney's rescue.

I just checked on google scholar and "royal lives" gives 0 results in florida case law. I found a 1984 FL law review article "Florida's Statutory Rule Against Perpetuities" which says royal lives shit doesn't work in FL. It's not an American thing, obviously.
“On the day that the legislation was passed by the Florida House, the former board and Disney entered into a development agreement and deed restrictions that essentially stripped most of the governing authority of the district and also made certain promises and concessions to Disney for many, many years out into the future,” said board member Brian Aungst, Jr. “They have tried to take that away from this board, the ability to provide that oversight, and we’re not gonna let that stand.”
“There’s a lot of little back-and-forth going on now with the state control,” DeSantis said during a book stop tour in Smyrna, Georgia, late this week. “But rest assured — you ain’t seen nothing yet. There’s more to come in that regard.”
Disney made this a matter of credibility for FL Republicans while also giving DeSantis an excuse to stomp on them for votes. Absolutely retarded.
I gotta say, "The guy who got politically famous for dickslapping us (among other things) is looking for more political grist. Wanna go pick a fight with him?" does not seem to be the most rational strategy that I've heard.
Since you're a lawyer, I'm curious. Could this lead to anyone getting disbarred? I have to wonder if Disney didn't slip a few bucks to some paralegal to "bury" some stuff.

It reeks of desperation.
Yep. Thinking they just want to create enough chaff so that it all gets tied up in court process past DeSantis' term.
It sounds like Sovereign Citizen bullshit.
Disney's a car crash away from losing, then, since Harry's a bastard who's self-selected out of the gene pool by marrying a feminist spinster.

I'm going to assume that there is large overlap between their writers and their lawyers. Suckling from the same male teat.
Exactly, for DeSantis, stomping on Disney IS campaigning.

Just bulldoze it all down.
