My High School history teacher Senior year was one of those radical, young-gun, everything-you-know-about-history-is-wrong types. He was always quick to point out that American history in particular was often sanitized and white washed.
For example, he took great joy in telling us that the pilgrims were actually greedy idiots who didn’t leave England because of religious persecution but were just greedy and came to America looking for gold, and that the Indians were much smarter and stronger but lost anyway because the stupid dirty White people were crawling with diseases and didn’t know how to bathe.
He kept that up all year happily deconstructing the Revolutionary War, The Civil War, The French Revolution, etc… until he got to World War Two. That’s the one event in human history that has been reported with 100% accuracy and absolutely no lies or embellishments from the victors.
They make it out it was some conventional war where the allies came together to storm the beaches and they won the end.
That is quite literally how I was taught. Germany was rampaging through Europe, the Allies came together to form The Avengers, and they somehow won the entire war by storming Normandy beach. And then we nuked Japan for no reason at all. Simple as that. The rest of the time they could have spent going into greater detail was spent watching various Hollywood propaganda movies about the Holocaust.
I suspect I'm not the only one my age to get such a robust education.
That's why things like the Jewish Question can even propagate. Even if you have no desire to hate on them, the way WW2 is treated as this perfect correct thing and you cannot question any part of it (except for the Pacific front, no one cares about that).
Every other war in history has embellishment and inaccuracies, but if you ever suspect that maybe it wasn't exactly 9 gorillion in the ovens then the entire media and society comes down on you.
That, and the fact that despite being book-ended by greater tragedies, questioning the holocaust is a criminal offence in multiple countries while those tragedies are either overlooked or presented in a positive light by left-wing media and educational institutions.
It's nothing more than a pity grift at this point, and should be treated as such. No sacred cows, for anyone.
I've heard that many of the German holdouts and concentration camps were too well-defended for the Allies to take over, so they ended up simply cutting off all the supply lines, starving everyone inside, Germans and Jews both. That claim rings true to me. Many of the pictures of the piles of dead "poor, tortured and executed jews" also had dead German soldiers in them.
This claim alone is one that does make it reasonable to question the stated number of victims to German gas chambers, and yet, some people in power would want to prosecute you for "antisemitism" if you vocalize this.
Yeah I don't know about that. Why would the Germans defend concentration camps particularly well? They were open air prisons with no military value, not factories or anything productive. If anything, the Germans would be happy to make the prisoners the Allies' problem and save themselves the trouble of trying to supply them.
