The black slave thing though still doesn't sound right as wasn't the only outside trade they had was with the Dutch only or is the game set even before then. Where the fuck would a black person even get onto Japan when it finally took an American armada to open them up for trade.

Ye I don't believe it either but it has become so accepted that I think they could get away with it.

Japan also had trade with the portugueses, and Portugal had many black slaves.

But taking them to Japan? I don't think so especially considering they were on such thin ice with the Japanese that eventually led the Christian rebellion that saw Christian converts try to overthrow the government

...it didn't go well, the rebels all die, Christianity and Portuguese where banned from Japan and the Dutch became the only trading partner.....because they traded guns to the government during the rebellion.

I do find it funny how in another comment thread to this we actually have historical examples of female samauri and warriors but black no.

It's the constant need for the left to one up themselves and go even further. Just having a female samauri or Shinobi and the biggest question would've been 'she better be hot' but they had to go too far with black when even Chinese and European were rare in Japan at the time. It's like having a good story involving a same sex couple and then they go 'ah, ones trans now'

I think it is not impossible, considering that the portuguese used black slaves in all other colonies. Here is a depiction of portugueses in japan in XVI century, you can clearly see a black slave carrying a big umbrella.

There is also the famous story of yasuke, a black guy born in moçambique (Portugal Colony) who became a warrior in japan.
