In theory, the wives of samurai were expected to know how to fight to serve as a “last line of defense” force for while their husbands were out waging war. And there were a handful who fought. But like always, it’s an interesting historical footnote rather than a common thing.

There were many geisha’s hired as assassins though.

Actually I have to play devils advocate here. A simple revenge plot about a samurai's wife avenging her husband who got killed sounds good. The fact that you play a woman not experienced in warfare makes sense for a video game where you start of killing rats in sewers and level up/get stronger in order to fight the main villain. Hell, how the culture war is going on I can give a w to ubisoft for portraying a traditional couple (Man and woman). About the black shinobi: yeah thats bullshit

Oh yeah, it seems like the best possible option and I think it could be cool.

The unfortunate thing is Ubi might not be into that, since they got salty about so many people picking the male character in Odyssey.

Yea I don’t mind playing as a woman but I remember them being upset about picking the male character but I was like the game is most likely going to appeal to more guys so that makes sense
