Probably saying pineapple on pizza is great . . . . . I disavow this statement, merely an example.
Pineapple on pizza wasn't controversial in the slightest until the internet decided to manufacture create a meme-worthy argument that took on a life of its own.
I wonder if there is a word for those kind of manufactured fake controversies. The internet is full of those reddit tier "discourses"
"Are hot dogs sandwiches?" is another one off the top of my head.
Memes.
They're called memes.
Fairly sure it was always a bit of a commonly disliked meme, like pickles.
It's got a strong unusual flavour, and doesn't traditionally go with that dish. And then you've got these 2 disgusting eastern big cities focusing on whatever it is that they call pizza, to the point of making it a part of their identity. Then california (also rightly generally hated) comes along and sticks their tropical shit all over it. Yeah it's gunna be disliked.
More common now, but I'm sure there are 80s and 90s sitcoms that will mention it
It has been a foul and unnatural waste of a perfectly good crust since before normies got on the internet.
For every person that complains about pineapple on pizza I dare them to try Asian “pasta sauce” it’s bananas and tomatoes…
Ok, wtf although asians can eat that durian fruit so guess it's a really different pallette
Though they don't understand great bread so that's something.
I mean, I use durian fruit the same way I used to use 151 Bacardi and Tabasco in the military, or Thai whiskey, it’s a ritual trial of if you can take it and hold it in. Plus it’s hilarious to make a chick split open a durian fruit and start gagging.
