It's a generic AAA "open world rpg", except the MC is inner city dumb young entitled black bitch who gets teleported to another world and gets a magic bracelet ("cuff") which grants her superpowers.
Basically Square Enix tried really hard to make a AAA video game version of a shitty, generic diversity-and-inclusion check box Netflix series.
If you just changed the MC to a Hwhite male and swapped out the woke characters, it would be a generic 7/10 type "open world" game probably. The cringe dialogue and characters bring it down a lot.
Hogwarts Legacy absolutely destroys Forspoken. Hogwarts Legacy is actually a good game. It's the same type of game but 100x better in every respect. And where was it made? Salt Lake City, Utah.
The fact that it was made by japs is cringe. Imagine being from a superior race and culture with dominant global products, and thinking "I should stop being awesome and Japanese, and instead copy what the jews in hollywood do". I hope they learned their lesson, Square Enix dumbfucks.
Notice how EVERY big company, even Japanese, gets taken over by the wokes? Ever wonder why? It's because top university candidates from the highest rank schools tend to be some of the most woke, and they exploit their position to take over the most desirable jobs, which means the jobs in the biggest companies. The tech demo that was shown before it was renamed/twisted to forspoken was actually quite interesting. Too bad that they had to make it for "western audiences" instead of actually giving us something good for a change
The game was made on the Luminous engine, the same engine that FFXV was built on and the reception towards that game was lukewarm. Luminous Productions re-using Project Athia assets for Forspoken was a last ditch sunken cost fallacy attempt to recoup the investment into the engine.
Apparently, they thought woke-ifying the game would help it sell and we know the rest of the story.
Gotcha. Yea it makes no sense. Unfortunately any black character I see in current era I assume they will be anointing and lecturing. One exception being Denzel. They could make a cool game with him as the main character. Or a character voiced by him. But it sucks that Japan is bending the knee.

Square Enix would sell their own mother if it made them 0.1% more profit. All this is, was some woketards at Squenix thinking that they could make a woke pander game to sell to Gaijins for easy Hwhitebuxx.
Unfortunately because the corporate culture at Squenix is totally out of touch with reality thanks to woke subversion, they badly miscalculated and got a cold hard dose of reality.
So hopefully they've learned their lesson.

and no one would care because critics are worthless now. people don't trust them, they trust people like popular streamers and youtubers. the "critics" torched Hogwart's Legacy and it smashed sales records while Forspoken languished.

Most likely scenario was a bunch of glitzy consultants came in and pitched the idea to Nippon Honorburu Business execs who thought it looked like garbage but figured if the round-eyes say it's good who are they to argue?
The usual result of failures in the western markets is pulling back and making more standard jap games, which then "unexpectently" make it big in the west (eg Monster Hunter) and they try making more western-focused games again with similar results as this.
Some kind of eternal east-west game dev cycle.
The bigger issue to me is the defining issue of entertainment today, which is also the genesis of GG and this site: the attempt to forcefully change the tastes and habits of the market. Products are being made not based on what people want, but on what the developers think they should want. Everyone thinks they can just throw their customers away and create new ones from magic. it's quite insane, and I think it will be studied in the future much like "tulip mania" today.
SquareEnix made THREE Final Fantasy 13 games, despite the original being almost universally hated. With the final one being a literal waifu jerkoff fest for the director.
