While other churches are running out of money and getting into giant SJW arguments that are breaking things apart, the Mormon church is in trouble for not reporting all of its money. First off, the entire accusation is likely on the low side of how much excess money there is. If you take the membership of 20 million, half that to show the amount of people paying tithing, then recognize the average member makes around $50,000 a year you can figure out the basic numbers for the church are $50 Billion a year. They have tried to use other methods of money making without tithing, but those were all stopped because of political meddling by various groups.
At one point the major money came from bake sales and spaghetti feeds. These were run by the women's society, which in turn began to demand the buildings they raised money for, be used only for their activities. Another solution was to have the wealthier members pay for everything. Eventually those wealthy members either refused, or left. When the only thing the leadership ask is about your wallet, it doesn't fill your spiritual needs. The push for Tithing went throughout this time, but the members themselves continued to try other failed methods.
The church in turn has tried to spend more, but has also acted as if they were expecting a big disaster to happen and the money would be needed. Architecture circles in Florida all talk about how the church is changing a very large cattle ranch into a city. This should be over a few decades, but if the money was needed to do it quickly the church has it. If this was true, the church would be moving the leadership and head quarters to Florida.
Utah itself has tons of people trying to prove that this is the perfect sign the church is about to fall. Being flush with cash and starting cities is totally a sign that they're on the ropes.
I found it while looking at various news items and realized this one needed more context than usual. Also, I wanted to mention the city in Florida.
I have friends in Utah, and when I posted the same link I got a lot of comments from members who want the church to be lefty.
Conquest's Second Law in action.
It's not that the LDS is based, it's that its leadership is 80+ years old. They are quite left-leaning when compared to how racist old people should be. That means the LDS is 60 years behind the leftward slide vs. the 10-20 that normal cons are.
