It's one of those things that has ALWAYS existed, it's just now thanks to leftists, they CLAIM to have influence, like how every current female 'action' star is 'the first time'
Case in point: The Fate series
It really depends on the story more than anything, there was one funny one played for laughs last year, this season only aware of 2, it's mostly the season of Isakais and reincarnation.
I get it, I can only go so 'cultured' so I noped out of the recent dog one lol. Fortunately the feminists lost a lot of ground in Japan ever since Elon took over Twitter.
At least they provide the opposite too, the current big ones is one with a certain demon Lord that has the chadist uno reverse card set and a guy who just goes 'eh fuck it, magic nuke!'
Ranma might have its genderbent element, but it makes it clear in no uncertain terms he is a guy, thinks of himself as a guy, and his female form is either a curse or a weapon in his arsenal. Even the author told anyone trying to think deeper about it "I don't think about things like that and you shouldn't either."
Compared to others, its far more rigid about where it stands on the matter, and truly is treated as just an extra avenue for gags rather than the centralizing element. I agree on them all being unstomachable.
The Japanese tradition where they put a guy in a dress and laugh at him has no cultural or historical connection in any way to the worldwide communist conspiracy to convince white men to castrate themselves.
It would be funny if it did though. Like we found out it was started by the Jesuit missionaries or something. The ghost of Kalergi is smiling and rubbing his ghost hands together while saying "All according to keikaku."
On a side note, I'm fucking sick of genderbent bullshit in anime, and there are quite a few this season.
Yeah, I noticed that. Not my thing. The only one I'll give a chance is Ayakashi Triangle, where it's played up for comedy/lewd, and he (so far) wants to go back to being a boy. If they delve too far into the gender stuff I'm out though.
Also, this ONIMAI thing seems especially bad, at least in who it's attracting; I was curious to check the subs (the site I use has the Chrunchyroll ones), and checked the comments too...a bunch of troons celebrating and bullying people. I despise these people and their self-righteousness. Just based on the premise, the show does seem to be tranny-bait and attract people with the fetish. I might end up having to watch a bit just to see if it's as creepy as it sounds, though.
Fair enough. If it's not for you, it's not for you.
I didn't get far enough into ONIMAI it to find out how bad it is, dropped it the first 30 seconds lol. The artwork (cover? title card? idk) from the website I watch anime on, has a very suspicious color scheme.
Oh yeah, just checked. Very pink and blue. To be fair, the trannies appropriated that, and pink and blue have for ages represented female and male, so it's a natural choice for genderbender stuff but...yeah, still pretty sus now that you point it out.
Not as sus as that dog anime you were discussing in another comment. I noped out of that as soon as I saw the freaking title...didn't need to go any further.
God, Japan is fucking weird. There's plenty of great anime, and then there's that weird vein that runs throw it with genderbending, emasculation, loli stuff, pet stuff, incest stuff...it's just amazing how many sick fetishes they can stick into their content.
Very occasionally they'll include some of that stuff in a show without ruining it; I really like Chivalry of a Failed Knight, and that has light elements of a bunch of that stuff; a brocon loli and a crossdressing/"trans" friend, but still manages to be a great show. It's handled well though, and the tropes are played around with in funny ways.
Japan, thank you very much for anime...but get your shit together, for real!
The point of Yojo Senki isn't "haha salaryman become little girl" though, whereas Onimai seems to be entirely about a young woman genderbending her brother as a joke

At least their degenerates never insisted on changing the language and calling you a transphobe if you disagreed.

Tanya didn't even play that up, it was mostly incidental to the plot as a whole.

The point of Youjo Senki is to ask the question "wouldn't it be cool if Hitler was a 9 year old girl who could fly?" and the answer is "absolutely".
