It's a dangerous mindset. A lot of the time the shit they say is wrong, but you know the broken clock philosophy. It DOES happen, and you can't let it blind you when it does.
You have a point. A trick is to offer to bad choices and promote one of them so the opposition promotes the other. There is a better answer but it's not covered.
How do we determine the difference between the Leftists arbitrarily choosing a position that the rest of us already hold and turning it into a new problem they have to address, and us reacting to something they started up on their own, which forces us to respond?
Great observation. It's probably natural to happen, but it's also natural to become intellectually lazy from such a habit. Being aware of it is a first step, and you only need a little bit of thought to keep it from becoming a personal problem (keeping it from becoming a group problem, though, I dunno).
It is more of a mind set. When the left is pro-Ukraine or pro-Palestine my first instinct was to be anti this things. I'm on the fence on both of this issues.
Not OP, but the recent natural gas stove astroturfing comes to mind.
There's nothing wrong with supporting fossil fuels or defending personal choice.
But it does feel like it puts us on our backfoot when the elites and the left control the narrative so much that suddenly all the patriots are championing stoves.
It's not about "supporting fossil fuels" as much as pushing back against the incrementel removal of the things that allow us to maintain the living standards we've become accustomed to.
This is an unfortunate part of human nature. It takes a conscious effort to constantly question your own biases and influences, and many just aren’t self-aware enough or don’t have it in them to do this. This is why humility is so important, even in the face of an arrogant enemy.
They are stupid but I do fear that we are moving in a phase were we take the opposite position to anything leftist without processing it properly.
Oddly enough, taking the opposite position is mostly correct but I still do not like it.
The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. Nothing more, nothing less.
Maybe a temporary ally of convenience.
You can become friends, but you shouldn't let people you hate determine your social life.

Agreed. You should never let your enemy determine your own position.

Grifters and subversives love brain-dead contrarianism. It makes their work so much easier.

Just start from the opposite position and move on from there. Simple as.

Got any examples?

Are you okay with them banning gas stoves?
