Apparently you don't even have to go that far back to see this. In 1999 a vaccine against the Rotavirus was pulled after it was found that it caused 1-2/10000 adverse reactions. The latest study from Taiwan puts the number of adverse reactions, at least to the Pfizer one, to 1/1000.
There's a reason they're one of the top, if not the top company in the list of how much they've paid in litigations for malpractice and faulty products. Covid becoming political, governments signing agreements to take responsibility for the side effects caused by the lack of testing of the injections, and also receiving the support and the mediatic protection that democrats and leftists regularly enjoy, is an incredible godsend for Pfizer, considering their previous reputation.

I wonder if they figured out a better tactic: pay the politicians (and apparently media) before distributing a dangerous product.
I've yet to see any government take responsibility for that. They only made it so Pfizer et al can't be held responsible.
This would never happen today.
