I didn't spend any metals yet. That was cash. I keep a pile of cash and a pile of metal. Like I said, the logic is that I'm keeping the metal for something like 5 years before I ever spend it.

I actually keep a cash-on-hand reserve as well just in case the ATM's get programmed to not let you take out more than $100 a day or something.
Obviously, you'll need to flip your gold into cash in chunks that re-fill a cash reserve because it ain't perfectly liquid... yet.
