The writers had no problem creating characters that you absolutely fucking loathe, and I admit I'm a little bit impressed by that
Why does that impress you? Every character nowadays is inherently dislikable even if they didn't intend to write them in such a way. Frankly I'd be impressed if they created a genuinely likable character for a change.
Scarred leader of the right-winged militia-themed camp that initially comes across as an asshole? Actually not that bad, anyone can leave his camp if they want, and while they're starving, they don't have to worry about little things like enslavement and rape.
The kind-looking old granny who's all sweetness and cuddles for a little girl the MC brings in out of the wilderness? Nah, she's a pathetic, raging bitch who's basically running a slave-camp for some whackass reason.
It's a low bar to clear, but I don't mind pointing out when writers actually make characters that would normally be untouchable in other media out to be horrible people.
