I’d like to see the Venn diagram of the people who think that hate speech should not be protected and the people who think that obscenity is or should be protected. My guess is that it’d look like this.
The more people graduate university, the higher the latter percentage will rise. In maybe two generations the majority of Americans will not care one whit for free speech, will be happy to let any authority dictate to them what they think and believe. Same for those who avoid college but go through the public school system.
I wish they would have added a bit more information. I'd like to know how many people believed that hate speech wasn't protected by the first amendment, but thought it should be.

The only speech that requires free speech protections is controversial speech. If hate speech is excluded, you don’t have free speech.
