Dude, a fantasy show about various African folklore would be great and probably sell like hot cakes but the studios know they'll get more views by race-swapping established lore and characters. It's honestly kind of sad.
Yep. I mean every culture has some sort of folklore or mythology. But as long as diversity is valued over good stories this will continue. I would say I’ll read the book but I’m still mad at GRRM for taking forever on main series
And don’t forget giving young black people a reason to be oppressed despite living in a country that millions risk their lives to get to. It would be problematic because if you look up any African kingdom/ruler they are guilty of the same things on some scale as the things they demonize the west about i.e. slavery/land conquest
Further, they're never going to allow blacks any kind of identity other than oppressed descendants of slaves. They do not want to lose their golem by instilling some kind of moral or ethical racial pride.
So maybe the "we wuz kangz" types are trying to break free from that, but in an irrational way?
They're trying to do so but they hobble any sort of true independence by their own strongly held tenants.
"we wuz kangs" immediately calls forth the question of who the "current kings" are. They would probably say whites. Everything about their conception of themselves is in relation to whites. Self-imposed subservience because they focus so much on what the evil white men did and "continues" to do that they don't look at what they themselves are doing to lift themselves up.
The fact they haven't done it tells you they don't think it would do well. Black panther only killed it because it was shoehorned into an existing cinematic universe which at the time, if you missed a movie meant you wouldn't get something in another flick. As a standalone movie BP would never have done well commercially and everyone knows it.
LotR was as good as we'll ever get to a real adaptation. It was well planned, meticulously detailed, and a labor of love from everybody involved. This article just blew it off as "a bunch of white people on the screen."
It doesn't matter if it's a good series or loved by billions, to the woke left it's just more grist for the mill. They have no reverence, no respect, no humility. They just want to take everything and leave no space for any other opinions but their own. It's all just dirt to be paved over.

I would argue they are guilty on a greater scale since they were doing it for far longer.

Potentially based.

It was made with genuine love for the source material. It is a real adaptation, unlike that Chinese bootleg copy of a show Amazon made.
