Pippa is the only vtuber I occasionally watch. Based yabbit
Can somebody explain this whole vtuber thing to me. A friend sent me a link to some programmer troon vtuber coding and occasionally girlishly giggling. For 3 hours.
I don't get it.
The most generic description is someone using a motion tracked avatar instead of their own face. What they do is up to the person. Play video games, watch stuff on youtube, make tier lists of (other) anime waifus. Watching programming sounds fucking boring.
I'm sure the massive popularity and number of them comes from people wanting to copy the success of Hololive / Cover Corp, a Japanese company that owns/manages a couple dozen characters.
Make no mistake Hololive are Japanese idols first and foremost. If you don't know the term it basically means a popstar with strict management.
A vtuber is basically the same as any other person who streams themselves doing stuff, such as games or whatever, and the only real limit is the amount of money behind their tracking technology. There are several corporate vtubers with actual record deals and live performances as their persona.
As an example: Huge W
Whores with digital animeface
I don't really get it either, but the clips are funny. I've spent money on a superchat once, to ask Count Dankula if he was planning to make a P. A. Luty Mad Lad, and got a affirmative (and he made the episode like 6 months later).
A lot of it is silly drama and a lot of sexual innuendo, but look at Ironmouse. Of course we don't know, but the story is she was bedridden by a autoimmune disorder and complications, and has been supported by her parents for years. Dependent on meds and weekly plasma injections, and worrying about how she and her parents were going to make it as they got older.
She is now the highest subbed female streamer, financially made and capable of paying off her parents loans and setting them all up for life.
Trust the internet, for a person that livelihood to some part depends on lies? I'm not sure that is a well thought out plan, then again this is the cyberpunk version without the high-tech.
It depends as it's very varied between independents and industry
As a whole, the vtuber models allow performers to not worry about physical appearance and give enough separation filters come lose so you can have the lewdest content to a 4chan poster
Industry tends to be less drama focused due to corporate structure, most drama is from the outside (fans, indies, China etc) but they can still do a lot some also steam IRL just can't say I'm also this vtuber.
Independents are varied, you get what you search for so you can go for the lewd ones even ones that stream on adult sites, ones that like to push what you can say online to ones that just want to stream games without worrying about appearance. There's a few woke ones but they tend to not be that successful.
Its almost like most people want to be entertained, and the Woke are completely incapable of doing that for one reason or another. So of course the ones who are willing to sidestep the politics and actually have fun are going to do well.
Also, not going to lie: I have been considering starting doing VTuber things myself, simply because It would be a fun way to make some money off of my hobby (not making it into a job though). Could be interesting.
Just have a gimmick and work from there, start with a model, just look up Nux as it can just be a PNG image if you have the charisma and work out if you are better scripted or non scripted as neither is bad but don't try and focus being an off the cuff crazy in the moment person if you feel better doing scripted content and vice versa.
I actually already had an idea for a gimmick and model (something along the lines of the attitude of Teddy Roosevelt, based around my knowledge of history, with the form of a human-bear sort of thing to keep with the theme). I was probably going to aim for non-scripted and just working with either games I play with my friends or ones I do on my own, with my main genres being various strategy games (RTS, Tactical, 4X, and GSG's) as well as military sims. But I honestly play a little bit of everything except horror.
Like I said, its all very early ideas, so we will see what becomes of it all.
