I noticed the same thing with random image search results. Where you can search for something non-political and see that they've injected political/news results into the mix, OR they've filtered hits for your keywords so much that only one page of images will come up when there used to be dozens. I got a "There were no results for your search." page the other day. I hadn't experienced that with Google in a long time.
To get around these filtered results, sometimes purposefully misspelling the result lets you get around the censorious algorithm. On top of that, sorting by "most recent" sometimes lets you catch new stuff before it hits their 1984 filter.
I've just today searched for some videos I saw years ago about censorship of an older game. Can't find it anymore, impossible to find in any way. Videos were around 6-8 years old but you'd think stuff to still be there. I might misremember the title but general search for it should find me what I saw years ago. No dice.
