his foundation is a huge charity, and the vast majority of what it does is just ordinarily charity stuff like fighting malaria, which is what this sterile male mosquito eradication program is.

...yes? Bill Gates is cartoonishly evil, he'd have you and your entire family tortured if he could profit a single cent off of it. You'd have to be braindead to think he does this for the "good of humanity" or whatever the fuck.
His work in trying to reduce malaria is probably the only thing he's been consistently good about.
But reading into it, I can see where that effort could have driven him further into vaccine hysteria/hero complex.
Removing the diseases that were suppressing the African's population is far from a good thing. Which he immediately followed by massively subsidizing their food supplies to skyrocket their population even further.
Once the gravy train of free food and medicine from the West stops, that continent is going to explode. And they'll probably invade Europe en masse.
