I quickly learned that this is a "slut defense" that virtuous women don't have, only genuine sluts, so when I'd see this, I'd actually lose respect.

A virtuous woman would do that though, until marriage.

Virtuous women do not wait until marriage in modern times. They wait until they are sure the guy is interested in a serious relationship, though.
