The consequence of allowing and encouraging everyone to vote is what you see today. Conservatives don't need to be reminded to vote. Whether they do or they don't vote. They're not failing to do so because "awww sheeeit, I forgot there's an election today"

"Get out the vote," generically, benefits Democrats. Some of them look at that as a good thing. I just take it as further proof that universal voting is not a good mechanism for coming to correct decisions.
