No mention of Taiwan.

This was always going to be a battle of wills, with the Chinese Communist Party making empty and ambiguous threats to scare Pelosi off from visiting Taiwan. This is an act of Chinese aggression by which it aims to "take ownership" over Taiwan in an unprecedented way.

Numerous congressional delegations have visited Taiwan. In 1997 the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, traveled to Taiwan and met with President Lee Teng-hui. Even as recently as April 2022, a U.S. congressional delegation visited Taiwan.

This is pure flexing by China to try to create a new normal where it gets to dictate Taiwan's foreign relations as a means of legitimatizing a later invasion.

The Democrats can always be relied upon to be cowards and little bitches when it comes to international relations (unless the EU wants us to bomb someone for them), but I had hoped that the strong polling against China in the US would mean that even the cowardly Democrats would have enough sense to not back down.

She could still make a "surprise" visit, but it's still a degree of cuckoldry to even have to sneak around instead of doing it loud and proud, as she always should have.
