I'm sure Hungary's pro-natalist policies caused that and not a war going on next door.
7.8% inflation before the war in Ukraine.
9.3% Poland (So, there are people doing worse, somehow.)
7.5% US
5.1% Italy
Handing free money out is a way to accelerate inflation.
Before the war, there was also COVID...
Hungary doesn't appear to be any sort of outlier to me.
Italy was worst affected by Covid and they only had 5.1% inflation in January 2022.
That's not a huge difference. Also, more deaths don't necessarily mean more economic damage. It's way more complex than that. I also would add that I would easily endure some inflation to secure my people's future existence.
