Quality is judged by the consumer. Garbage doesn't sell and publishers want to make money, so they publish what people want to buy.
These people think that there are committees of "white, male overlords" who get together and conspire to ruin shitty media like the new Star Wars films. Those things fail because they are shitty and consumers reject them.
More expensive too. Mcds is shooting for the mid-tiee fast food market, not the "cheapest" like they used to. Interestingly BK has flipped to being cheaper. Checkers/Rallys is your bottom tier.
They make a profitable and well selling product but the quality is shit.
I think it depends on a McDonald basis, my small French city decided to allow the construction of one McDonald with the pre requisites that they have to acquire more than 80% of their goods locally, so in this particular one you have unfrozen Limousine meat and organics tomatoes, salad, onions and daily freshly baked bread.
They could sell those for a lot since they are definitely higher quality than usual, instead the franchisee set the price at roughly 15% less and only hired locals. Just like that, everyone is ok with McDonald in my town now, I hope every American company isn't like that or else we're definitely going to lose against such soft power.
I have spoken with authors who were rejected not because their work wouldn't sell but because it WOULD. They were told, "Your (paranormal romance/urban fantasy/cowboy astronaut/etc) subgenre is popular with indies and we don't want to compete with them."
It's like if Blizzard rejected the WoW pitch because "MUDs are already dominating the MMORPG space."
It tells me major publishers have no idea what actually sells copies. They only know how to spam proven authors (King/Patterson/Sanderson) or woke shit, because at least that way when they fail they can blame it on racist whitey.
They just can't imagine people not doing things the way they do things. They do sit in meetings and determine what bullshit optics have to be in a story and then force a story around that bullshit. And it's terrible. We've been complaining about that shit for 20 years.
The fact that companies do only produce what they know will sell is their whole problem.

Now you're just arguing for massive population reduction.
shit? nah, they've gotten way better in recent years.

"Quality" is a meaningless word. Quality is a classification, not a measurement. "Redness" is a quality. "Portability" is a quality.

Disney straight up admitted that they've turned down a bunch of amazing scripts because the writers and/or the characters were too white.
I think most of this is ideologically driven, as opposed to being the result of not knowing what consumers want.

Leftists read what they are told to read, and they think everyone else operates the same way.
