All it's going to do there is jam the hammers, I'm pretty sure. If you want that grenade to go off you have to hit the pointy end really hard.
But it looks placed sideways, so shit makes no sense even if it's just a placeholder safe grenade for a photo. Also I don't think anyone would be going around making such cartoonish contraptions even out of boredom, it's just absurd.
