Now? Perhaps. Originally? I don't think so. As far as I'm aware, it started as shitposts on /pol/ in mid 2016 during the Praise Kek meme war run-up to the Brexit vote and the US Election.

Facebook boomers found it way later.

I agree originally it was (probably) not. But the end result was getting picked up and amplified by USG to delude & control boomers.
