Nah, I'm fine with local governments paving roads and running food banks since theyre small enough to avoid the corruption that comes with massive bureaucracies and directly connected to the populace.
Local governments are super corrupt, but it's easier for a determined group of citizens to fix them and hold the politicians accountable, or failing that to move to a less corrupt place.
And that's why they wouldn't be corrupt. They'd know it would be all to easy to sort them out.
They get away with what they can.
My local government is sued every 5 years or so by various contractors for breaking contracts. First they hire a company that goes over cost and time limits, then they fire the company, then they pay said company a settlement because they never actually put a clause enforcing estimates in the contract.
Nobody does anything, we just shuffle the mayor and move on.
Get a load of this guy.
