I feel like lots of things are coming to a head (so to speak) in the last few years.

Reason is in the information age you either accept reality or you hide from it by completely isolating yourself from facts and independent thought. Without checks, your beliefs become increasingly insane, like somebody stuck in a sensory deprivation tank, until they're so crazy and you're so desperate to ignore reality that something has to snap.

The liberal train has been slowly going off the rails for a long time, but when Trump happened instead of saying "hmm maybe we were wrong about things" they collectively purged all conservatives from their news and their life, accelerating the crazy train toward the end of the tracks.
